Thank you to our many volunteers who come out every day to ensure the safety of the students at Meadowcrest. A reminder to Kiss and Ride users to come early! There is less traffic when the Kiss and Ride first opens at 8:35 a.m. We ask that you please remember to turn right when exiting the Kiss and Ride and watch for pedestrians. Let's continue working with our volunteers to keep everyone safe in the morning.
Meadowcrest celebrates Black History Month! The Junior STAR (Students Together Against Racism) team will be organizing an assembly with a guest speaker.

With the snow and cold weather upon us, we are once again reminded of Canada's potential harsh weather conditions. Please remember to dress your children warmly, and appropriately for the weather. All winter activities require warm, dry clothing. To prevent frostbite, children should be dressed in warm clothes, including: a hat (close-fitting, and covering ear lobes), mittens (gloves do not keep hands warm as effectively as mittens), loose layers, socks (wool or a wool blend is better than cotton), and boots.
The Primary Choir will be starting weekly practices again on Monday, January 30th at 12:00 in Mrs. Pryde's room. We are counting on seeing all those beautiful smiling faces back again! We had many rave reviews for our Christmas performance. Please remember that weekly attendance is important. If your child is away, please leave a message with the office. Super singers, we'll see you in February!
Groovin' KIDS will be visiting Meadowcrest on February 1st! Groovin' KIDS is part of the Fit2Dance organization. Students from grades one to eight will be participating in high energy, interactive, instructional dance sessions. The Groovin' KIDS program is aligned with the Health and Physical Education curriculum as well as the Dance curriculum. Cross curricular connections will be made to music, drama and social studies! Students will groove and move in an inclusive environment, all while building self-esteem and physical fitness. It's going to be a fantastic day!
Valentine's Day is around the corner and with it the tradition of trading sweet nothings with the ones we love. Traditionally we do this with candies, lollipops and chocolates. This year we ask that you keep in mind the children at Meadowcrest P.S. who have life threatening food allergies as most chocolates and candies have trace amounts of key allergens that can trigger an allergic reaction. Instead, we ask you to start a new tradition of exchanging Valentines with stickers, pencils, silly bands, erasers or other small items. Why not consider donating a book from the class to the school's library?
Meadowcrest was honoured to host representatives from the organization Free the Children on Wednesday, January 18th. Jennie and Chris shared their passion for making change in the world, while challenging the junior and intermediate students to think of ways they could be agents of change. Free the Children empowers youth to be active citizens, using their own ideas, passions and creativity to find ways to better the lives of children around the world. Areas of focus that were shared with our students were: health, education, clean water and alternative income. Many students, and teachers, walked away feeling challenged and excited to find ways to make positive
Brrrrr!!!! With the cold weather fast approaching, be reminded that students go outside for morning and afternoon recesses and for 40 minutes during the lunch hour. Appropriate warm clothing should be worn so that the students are comfortable taking advantage of the fresh air and engaging in outdoor activities.
